Nähr in Klimt Research
There is evidence that there were numerous professional and personal points of contact between Moriz Nähr and Gustav Klimt: Moriz Nähr made several portraits of the painter and documented two of his studios. Nähr also photographed numerous paintings by Klimt, including works that are now considered destroyed or lost. Nähr's photographic documentation therefore contributes significantly to our understanding of Klimt's oeuvre. To understand Nähr's photographic work in the wider context of Klimt's world, please also visit the Gustav Klimt Database initiated by the Klimt Foundation.
Catalogue raisonné
A catalogue raisonné is a systematic, scholarly compilation of all known works by an artist. It contains detailed information on the individual works, such as title, date of creation, material, technique and dimensions. In contrast to an ordinary photo collection, this digital catalog raisonné of a photographer's work aims to document the authenticity and context of the works and provide a complete overview of an artist's oeuvre. It therefore serves as an indispensable reference work for art historical research.
Registration
Access to the online catalogue raisonné requires the creation of a free Klimt account. This also gives you automatic access to all other digital services of the Klimt Foundation, in particular the Gustav Klimt Database.
Note: If you have already registered in the research area of the Gustav Klimt Database in the past, you do not need to register again. Your previous access data are also valid for the Moriz Nähr catalogue raisonné
